Smell(ed) something? Say something!

We’ve been mapping and reporting the mill’s fumes for years. We push Ecology for action, Ecology pushes the mill, the mill adds some piece of equipment and we’re still breathing CRAP!

We wonder, “Is a class action lawsuit possible? Would it make a difference?”

If you have ever been disturbed by the mill’s stench — wherever you live* — download and mail in the two-question survey.

*We know of people getting the mill stink as far away as Everett, San Juan Islands, Whidbey, Hood Canal Bridge, Quilcene — it travels far along shorelines and across unobstructed waters. Terrell Marshall wants to hear from YOU, too!

Here’s what’s up:

Seattle law firm Terrell Marshall and their partner attorneys in Detroit who specialize in cases like this have offered to file a class action lawsuit on our behalf. If successful, as the team has been elsewhere in the U.S., the mill will be required to install readily available, state-of-the-art equipment to reduce odors & toxic fumes that presently violate your property rights.

TO BE CLEAR, this suit will not close the mill. It is to make Port Townsend Paper replace aging equipment — much of it 50 to 100 years old! — with better. Something PTPC resists despite clear benefits to environment, resources, and area residents.

The mill has money to make these upgrades. Its hedge fund owners can push money from one project to another, but the management typically chooses the least improvements they can negotiate with Ecology. (Even that is often a result of our prodding.)

Terrell Marshall sent out a preliminary survey to gauge the level of community concern.

They’ve received many responses, but they have told us that in order to proceed, they need an overwhelming response from individuals to understand how many people are affected, and where.

This is where YOU come in — If you haven’t responded, they need to hear from YOU, no matter how close or far away you live!!

Please fill out and send in this brief two question survey to tell them “YES! The mill’s fumes have bothered me and I want them to clean up their act!”
